OUR WORK WITH CHILDREN
Our children’s projects are delivered with the same attention to detail as our main projects, focusing on imaginative and innovative ways of making early music accessible to younger singers. Working with experienced education facilitators and professional musicians, we introduce children to the language, style and forms of early music through movement, song and visual art. Our main children’s projects take place each year during the Easter holidays. As well as bringing children together for intensive courses, we work directly with primary schools, and can offer schools workshops either online or in person, as restrictions allow. ‘Theodora re-imagined’ was a children’s project that was delivered alongside Sestina’s 2018 production of Handel’s oratorio Theodora. The children worked intensively with education facilitators Anne McCambridge and Laura McFall over3 days, learning about operatic forms such as aria and recitative and specially adapted versions of the choruses. The course resulted in a full performance of ‘Theodora re-imagined’.
