Job role: General Manager (part-time maternity cover)

Sestina is a registered charity which promotes performance and mentoring opportunities for young singers. The General Manager is central to organising its highly popular and successful events as well as managing the day-to-day administration of the organisation, and, in conjunction with the Musical Director, securing the development of future programmes. The successful applicant will continue the preparation for and administration of our current concert season, including a concert tour in April 2019, as well carrying out forward planning for future events, including fundraising.


Applicants will be expected to meet the following criteria:


  • University degree, preferably in an arts or arts-related subject
  • Experience of working in an arts management role

  • Substantial knowledge of classical music repertoire

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • The ability to work independently and as part of a small team

  • Capacity to supervise contracted artists, workers and facilitators

  • Flexibility to fulfil weekend and evening event administration

  • Experience of project and event management


Salary and status

The position is for a commitment of three days per week, arranged with Sestina’s Company Secretary, who supervises the General Manager. The salary equates to £12 per hour, or £1248, paid monthly in arrears. Sestina Music can be flexible regarding salaried employment or contracting a self-employed applicant, responsible for their own NI and PAYE contributions.


NB: This is a fixed-term contract to cover maternity leave for the period 1st February 2019 to 1st September 2019 (with possible extension), and will end with the return of the permanent General Manager.
