Meet the Singers: Amber Dixon

With our Spring programme Music for the Sun King getting closer and closer what better time to introduce you to some of the wonderfully talented singers that will be gracing the stage! In this blog we will be getting to know rising soprano star, Amber Dixon.
Amber Dixon (Soprano)
17 year old soprano, Amber Dixon is a member of Flynn Performing Arts, under the direction of Fiona Flynn.
Her first step in singing came with the Ulster Youth Training choir and she has appeared on the John Toal Show on BBC Radio Ulster as a vocalist for the premier of Mary's Lullaby. As a member of Newry Musical Society Amber had her first musical theatre experience in April 2016.
Amber auditioned for Sestina and has sung with the group in The Glasshouse Derry, St Anne's Cathedral Belfast and Christ Church Cathedral Dublin and had the opportunity to join them twice in production of Handel’s ‘ Theodora’ and ‘ Dixit Dominus’.
She has played numerous roles, most recently, 'Maria’ in ‘West Side Story’ which took place in the Grand Opera House Belfast and ‘Cosette’ in the school edition of ‘Les Miserable’ in the Waterfront under the direction of BMDS.
Amber was delighted to win the girls under 18 solo at ESB Feis Ceoil this year in Dublin . Amber was the proud recipient of the Gilbert award for ‘ Best Female Singer’ at the AIM’s awards this year for her role as ‘Maria’ in’ West Side Story’.
Amber is an A level student at Our Lady's Grammar School Newry and her studies include Music and Drama. Just this year Amber has completed her tour with the Cross Boarder Orchestra under the direction of Greg Beardsell as their featured soloist, performing in venues such as; The M&S Bank arena, Liverpool and the SSE arena, Belfast.
Amber is very excited to be joining sestina for her third project and to grow even more as a performer.
